Yesterday I attended a meeting led by RBK South of the Borough Business and Local Residents Liaison Committee meeting Chair Rob Robb on behalf of Nick Rogers AM to discuss the safety risk of crossing the A243 after a residents dog was run over last year by heavy and fast passing traffic and local resident Ben's Petition above.
The meeting was attended by TfL Community Engagement Lead, The Star and Malden Rushett Residents Association, Chessington World of Adventures, Cllr, Thames Water and Highway England.
The traffic consequences of A3 Hook Underpass HGV diversions to M25 via Chessington A243 were discussed and TfL agreed to look again at the height of the underpass and consider whether this diversion can be cancelled and the signage removed to reduce traffic on the A243.
The additional traffic consequences of rerouting via Chessington to Leatherhead caused by the closure of A3/M25 J9/ J10 during 2024 ongoing high level digital motorways and upgrade project by Highway England was also discussed and implications for businesses such as Chessington World of Adventure and Barwell Business Park. The next major date 2024 will be March 15-18th

Plus the consequences for traffic of a new Thames Water trunk main in Chessington due to expansion in the catchment area, causing increased pressure on the main. Galliford Try will be working on behalf on Thames Water to excavate a trench to put a 630mm High Density Polyethylene pipe into the ground along 1km route.

A possible budget for evaluation, design and proposal was suggested by Cllrs and TfL. We are grateful to all the solutions proposed above and the strong coalition of interests to find funding for this project.
